The oil route
A route that borders along olive tree lands and it can know the farming tradition of the region.
The altitude, the topography and the combination of two winds (the wet "garbinada" goes up through "Vall de l'Ebre" and cold and dry "cerç" from northwest) have changed the region of Terra Alta into an ideal microclimate for cultivation of olive tree, mainly "empeltre", a local variety known (and recognized with a certificate of origin) because of its high fat content. The Oil Route, passes by road, borders along olive tree lands and it can know the farming tradition of the region. Because of this is a circular route, you can start in any of the towns through which passes: Arnes (where there is an oil mill become a tourist information point recently), Horta de Sant Joan (where you can visit the monumental olive "El Parot"), Bot, Caseres, Batea, La Pobla de Massaluca, Riba-roja, la Fatarella, Vilalba, Corbera and Gandesa (where you can visit the wine and oil space). Pinell de Brai (where there is a modernist cooperative winery by Cèsar Martinell inside wich there is an old mill) is the last stop before going to Prat de Comte and close the circular route. We recommend combine this tour with a visit to an oil mill of DOP Terra Alta.
