Rivers and streams
Canaletes and Algars are the most important rivers that bathe the region. They are typically Mediterranean rivers, with a limited or variable water level that increases during rainy season and in the winter. The main feature of the rivers in the region is that erosion causes the formation of spots of extraordinary beauty, such as waterfalls of El Ventador or Sotorres, the Olles del Baubo or the Hermitage of La Fontcalda, where the river flows through a series of vertical rocks known as the Estrets of La Fontcalda. In the sanctuary of La Fontcalda there is a thermal water spring with water that flows at
25 degrees centigrade.
The river Algars rises in the north side of La Mola de Catí and it divides Terra Alta and Terol. Arnes receives its tributary water, the Estrets, and near to Nonasp flows with the Matarranya. The Canaletes, about 30 km of length, flows into the Ebre, near to Benifallet. At La Pobla de Massaluca the River Matarranya meets the Ebre. In this area is located the nautical port, and ideal place to practice fishing and water sports.
